St. Bede edges Morrison in triangular

SPRING VALLEY, Ill. —Morrison’s Brock Smith was edged by a stroke for medalist as the Mustangs fell five strokes short of Peru St. Bede on Thursday during the Bruins’ home triangular at Spring Creek Golf Course.

St. Bede’s Jarrett Olson turned in a 3-over par 38 to beat Smith’s 39 and a 40 by Fulton’s Matt Dail. Four other Bruins fired in the 40s as the team compiled a 164 score. Morrison posted 169 and Fulton 179. Smith’s round included a birdie-4 on the par-5 fourth hole and four birdies.

Joining Smith for Morrison scorers were Noah Hogue’s 41, Colton Smith’s 44 and a 45 by both Nick Kaufman and Ben Tegeler. Colton Smith birdied the par-4 fifth hole, while Tegeler birdied the par-3 third.

Alongside Dail were Brett Terrock with 43, and Lucas Wiebenga and Dustin Rowland with 48s.

The Steamers turned around a win at the junior varsity level with Dylan Temple earning JV medalist with a round of 45. Fulton won that triangular with a low team score of 199, followed by Morrison JV’s 206.
