Mustangs 2nd in home meet

MORRISON, Ill. -- Morrison edged Riverdale by one stroke to claim second place Saturday as it hosted the Lorrin Fassett Invitational golf tournament at Prairie Ridge Golf Course.

The Mustangs finished with a 240 team total, while Riverdale had a 241 total. Forreston won the team title with a 238.

The tournament used a Ryder Cup-style format. Six holes were played under best-ball rules, six holes used alternate shot and six holes were a scramble format. All scores were counted, and none were dropped.

The Riverdale duo of Cameron Mayo and Jake Bussert were awarded the individual title. Both they and Stockton’s pair of Trey Timpe and Zach Lacher finished with 77s, and the tie was broken on a card back to the No. 1 handicap hole, where the Rams shot par and the Blackhawks bogeyed.

Colton Smith and Brock Smith combined to shoot a 78, tie for third and lead Morrison.

Fulton and Stockton tied for fourth at 248. Lucas Wiebenga and Blaine Simmons led the Steamers with an 82.

West Carroll placed ninth, Prophetstown was 11th and the Morrison junior varsity took 12th in the 12-team event. Grant Ames and Jackson Ames combined for an 80 for Prophetstown.
