A switch and a sweep

Derek Harksin got the first hit of the game for the Indians with an infield single to start the third and later scored on yet another passed ball. The lone error of the game for Prince of Peace came back to bite it in the fourth when an overthrow from the pitcher put Kyler Campie on second after a botched pickoff attempt. He scored on an Alm double, extending Camanche’s lead to 4-0.

“We kept battling. I liked it where we just seemed like we were scoring runs on every opportunity we got, one run an inning. Then we kind of busted it open in the fifth inning,” Cochran said. “So that was nice to see that we were finally able to put some more hits together, and I think that was the big thing.”

The fifth inning was a torturous one for the Irish pitching as no one could find the strike zone. Ten Indians stepped to the plate, with six of them earning walks. The lone hit of the inning came early from Schreiner. Otherwise there was an RBI groundout from Mensinger and a bunch of wild pitches and passed balls that sent the runners around the bases like a merry-go-round.

Camanche was unable to hold on to the shutout in the bottom half of the fifth inning with a 10-0 lead that would have ended the game early had it recorded the last three outs. The first error of the night by the Indians opened the flood gates for Prince of Peace, which worked itself two walks to load the bases. All of sudden, the Irish were hopping up to the plate with enthusiasm that had all but disappeared just minutes before after the excruciating half inning on defense.

An RBI single from Devin Bly put the Irish on the board for the first time on the night, and that was followed by another RBI single, this one from Laufenberg, and finally an RBI walk to Jacobs before the inning ended. That was all of the scoring on the night for Prince of Peace, but Camanche added a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to give it the 10-run win.
