Clues sought a year after death

By Jeniece Smith
Herald Staff Writer

CAMANCHE — The family of Alysia K. Marburger, whose body was found south of Camanche last October, is offering a $5,000 reward for information related to her death.

Marburger’s body was discovered Oct. 24, 2008, in a ditch along an access road near Rock Creek Park cabins off U.S. 67. Her family had reported her missing to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office earlier that month.

Marburger, 27, lived with her parents in Sabula. She was a nursing student at Clinton Community College and the mother of an infant girl, Aviera Noelani, now almost 2 years old.

The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny conducted an autopsy two days after Marburger’s body was found, but the cause of her death is still undetermined, said Clinton County Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Cundiff.

Cundiff said Marburger’s white 2002 Hyundai Sonata was found on 11th Avenue South in Clinton before her body was discovered, but he couldn’t give a specific date when the vehicle was found. He said the sheriff’s office is seeking information from anyone who may have seen Marburger or her car.

“It’s still an ongoing investigation,” said Cundiff. “We’re looking for help from the public.”

Clinton County Attorney Mike Wolf said more details are not publicly available because the case is under investigation as a homicide.

“Because it’s under investigation for that reason, all the reports are confidential at this time,” said Wolf. “I want to be sure that we protect the investigation, and yet get as much information as we can. That’s why the sheriff is asking for information.”

Wolf said it’s highly possible the sheriff’s office could receive new leads on the investigation.

“This is something we have not let up on,” said Wolf. “Sometimes people come forward with information. I’ve seen it happen where they’ve waited a while.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Clinton County Sheriff’s office at 242-9211 or Clinton County Crime Stoppers at 242-6595 or 1-888-883-8015.
