Donating to the community

CLINTON — During this past week, Mercy Medical Center recognized and celebrated National Radiologic Technology Week to honor the work and accomplishments of radiologic technologists. Mercy Imaging Services celebrated the week with various events including a food drive to help the community by filling bags with food for the Clinton Herald’s Great Thanksgiving Banquet.

“We all know that we are enduring one of the worst economic times in our history,” said Imaging Services Director Laurel Brandenburg. “This last year has been challenging to many people in and around our community. During the week, as we celebrate our profession, I put out a challenge to the entire department to help fill the shelves of our local food pantry.”

Brandenburg proposed the challenge to her staff and offered to match one-to-one each item donated.

“It’s been a great success,” Gina Truninger, radiologic technologist for Mercy’s CT technology, said. “Everyone has been pitching in to help the effort and the amount of food collected has grown every day.”

While the theme for RT week was “RTs: Changing Healthcare One Image at a Time,” Mercy’s Imaging Department put a local twist on their efforts, changing the theme to “RTs: Helping our Community One Can at a Time.”

Mercy Imaging Services performs approximately 45,000 procedures annually. RT’s specialize in breast imaging, computed tomography, interventional procedures, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, radiation therapy and general diagnostic radiology.
