Pay increases approved

DEWITT — Non-union pay increases were set for city employees at the DeWitt City Council meeting Monday.

In general, a 3 percent increase was approved. Exceptions, based on wages for positions in comparable cities, were 5 percent for the library director, 4 percent for the clerk/receptionist and fitness center office manager, and 3.5 percent for the city clerk. The city attorney’s fee, which has not been increased for at least 20 years, also was increased.

Monthly wages for City Administrator Steve Lindner were set at $7,615; Police Chief David Porter, $6,002; Public Works Director Matt Proctor, $5,341; Finance Director Deanna Rekemeyer, $5,219; Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Lake, $5,158; City Attorney Robert McGee, $1,500 (an hourly rate of $135); Police Capt. Marc Swingle, $5,322; and Library Director Jane Kedley, $3,792.

The hourly rate for city clerk Catherine Benthin is $24.43; building official Giles Looney, $27.16; billing clerk Donna Carlyle, $18.09; clerk/receptionist Faye Voss, $16.59; and DeWitt Fitness Center supervisor Lisa Kueter, $16.23. Pool manager Penny Jacobi’s contract for the season is for $9,166.

The council set May 19 for a public hearing for the budget amendment for 2013-14. The budget is amended twice each fiscal year to accommodate unanticipated revenues and expenditures and/or to adapt to changes in timing of capital projects.

The council approved updates to personnel policies, including limiting turning in health insurance claims to one year from date of claim, limiting life insurance coverage to age 70, and changing the one-half day Good Friday holiday to a full day. Health insurance changes were confined to the dates listed in the personnel policy, and these usually match union contracts. In addition, coverage for the death of a newborn to six months is $1,000.

The council discussed and approved preparations, purchase and installation of a chair lift at the DeWitt Fitness Center pool not to exceed $6,000.The Ranger Lift from ACCO of Johnston can be purchased, delivered and installed for $4,626, but placement and alterations will increase this cost. The lift will fulfill Americans with Disabilities requirements.
