HAZEL GREEN, Wis. — The ninth-ranked Prince of Peace Irish defeated the Bellevue Marquette Mohawks 52-41 in the championship game of the annual traveling Holiday Tournament Saturday.

Brooke Craig led the way for Prince of Peace, scoring a game-high 14 points. Lauren Ryan added 11 points and Tori Isenhour 10 for the Irish.

Eleisha Reeg paced Marquette with 10 points.

Craig and Isenhour were named to the all-tournament team. Craig was named the all-tourney captain.

“It’s great to win the tournament and not play particularly well,” Prince of Peace coach Dave Nelson said. “We had way too many turnovers — 20-plus per game. We need to protect the ball and stop trying to make the great pass. Rebounding in the first half was a ratio of 3-1 for Marquette. In the second half it was 3-1 for Prince of Peace.

“We must play four quarters, not two or three. Having a deep bench will help us. We had several points where we had three freshmen, a sophomore and a junior on the floor and did not lose ground. When we keep our energy up we will compete with most teams. Controlling the tempo offensively and defensively is our main focus this year.”
