DEWITT — Joseph F. Waack, 91, DeWitt, died Monday, August 31, 2009, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Joseph Francis Waack was born June 14, 1918, on the family farm in rural Grand Mound, Iowa, son of Harry and Catherine (Flynn) Waack.

Joe married Marcella Ruge April 23, 1949, at SS Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound.

He worked as a meat processor at Oscar Mayer, Davenport, for 32 years. He later worked at the DeWitt City Park and Rec for 10 years.

Most of all Joe enjoyed his grandchildren and the outdoors, especially going out to the Waack Family Farm, which is a century farm.

Surviving include his wife, Marcella; son and daughter-in-law, Richard (Rick and Annette) Waack, Grand Mound; grandchildren, Jamie Waack, Cory Waack, Nicole Waack; stepgrandchildren, Keith Miller and Russell Miller; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Waack; and lots of nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by both parents, four brothers, Robert (June 09) Lloyd, Leo and Harry (August 09) Waack; and sister-in-law, Bernadine Waack.

Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, DeWitt.

Memorials may be left to Hospice.
