Lions Club project expands
Job Corps students lend a hand

Lending a helping hand, students from the Iroquois Job Corps spent Thursday placing new bricks and repositioning existing markers as part of the Lions Club Memorial Brick project.
Located around the giant apple next to the Erie Canal in Medina, a brick pathway circles the fruit. On the bricks are memorials that have been purchased by people in the community. Lions Club member Dean Bellack said the bricks that are being purchased are not only in memory of people who have passed away, but also to celebrate life. He said people are purchasing the bricks for businesses, eagle scouts, anniversaries and other milestones in their lives.
“Our intention was to have a central place in the community for a community history,” said Bellack.
On Thursday, members of Job Corps helped the Lions Club create a new path by adding in bricks and moving the existing ones.
“The kids loved it,” said instructor Robert Sotir.
Eight students and two instructors worked on the pathway, placing more than 130 bricks around the apple.
Instructor Frank Pietrowski said that the student were looking for more ways to get involved with the community and thought this would be a nice way to start.
