Medina mayor recognized in Business First list
Tabelski named to "40 Under Forty"

Village of Medina Mayor Adam Tabelski is on Business First’s 18th annual “40 Under Forty” list.
The mayor — who in addition to his regular duties, serves on various committees and organizations — is just turning 30.
Tabelski said he was completely unaware that he had been nominated for this honor until he received a letter in the mail telling him he’d been selected.
“I was very surprised,” said Tabelski. “I was very shocked and surprised and humbled by it.”
Both Maureen Blackburn and Bob Waters secretly submitted a letter and filled out the paperwork to nominate him.
Blackburn cited Tabelski’s “commitment to our community.”
“Small towns in Western New York deserve to be honored the same as larger cities,” she said.
Blackburn said that in addition to serving Medina, Tabelski — who is communications director for state Sen. George Maziarz, R-Newfane — also did a lot of work organizing Maziarz’s first Honor Flight trip last year. The trip took more than 30 veterans to Washington, D.C., for the day to see the World War II memorial. He is also a member of the Army National Guard and active with the Medina Historical Society.
This is the second time a Medina resident has been on the list. In 2007, Andrew Meier — attorney with Webster, Schubel & Meier, owner of the Shirt Factory Café and now deputy mayor — was honored as part of the 16th annual list.
“It definitely is a good thing for our community to be represented on a list like this,” Meier said. “It says a lot about his (Tabelski’s) contributions to the community. It’s definitely something we should be proud of.”
Each year, Business First receives hundreds of nominations throughout Western New York. The submissions are then narrowed down to the top 40 individuals. Tabelski and the other nominees will be honored at a luncheon Nov. 12 in Buffalo.
