CLARENDON: Crash claims life of Holley teen

CLARENDON — Police are continuing an investigation into a two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of one Holley resident and sent two others to the hospital Wednesday night.
Austin Boyd, 19, of Holley was pronounced dead at the scene by Orleans County Coroner Scott M. Schmidt.
The accident took place at about 9:20 p.m. at the intersection of state Route 31A and South Holley Road. A Toyota sedan operated by James R. Renfrew, 55, of Holley, collided with a four-door Saturn operated by Ronald E. Boyd, 50, of Holley, according to the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office. Boyd’s son, Austin, also of Holley, was a front seat passenger in the Saturn.
A preliminary investigation suggests that Renfrew failed to stop at the stop sign on South Holley Road and struck the right side of Boyd’s car, according to the police report. The impact caused both vehicles to be pushed into a residential yard.
Alcohol or unsafe speed do not appear to be contributing factors, police said.
Renfrew and Ronald Boyd were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with non-life-threatening injuries.
Austin Boyd was extricated from the car by Clarendon firefighters and taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office in Rochester for an autopsy, according to the sheriff’s office.
The incident remains under investigation by Lt. R. E. Perry and Deputy M. J. Yarid. They were assisted at the scene by state troopers from the Albion barracks.
