Mustangs ousted after winning opening round

A goal just before halftime provided the clincher as No. 2 seed Iroquois went on to defeat No. 7 Medina 3-0 Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Section VI Class B playoffs.
Leading by a narrow 1-0 margin, Iroquois got a goal by Kristen Metz with just three seconds to go in the first half to break the game open.
Medina failed to get a shot on goal in the second half.
In Monday’s opening round, Medina rallied for two goals in the final five minutes to eliminate No. 10 East Aurora 3-2.
Trailing 2-1, Medina knotted the contest on a goal by Maddy Feltz with 5:46 remaining off an assist from Bailey Colonna.
Keeping the momentum, the Mustangs then netted the game winner as Chasity Chinn tallied on a rebound shot with 2:13 to go. Alecia Fortunato, who put up the initial shot, earned the assist.
Fortunato also scored Medina’s first goal with 8:11 remaining in the first half off an assist from Colonna.
However, East Aurora rallied to first tie the game on a goal by Devin Hennesey with 4:45 to go in the first half, and then to take the lead on a goal by Ali Smith with 12:55 remaining in the second half.
