Clinton School District ESL teacher Olga Krueger on Tuesday shows off pictures of her students she has collected over the years.

Olga Krueger, a resident of Morrison, Ill., is the ESL teacher for Clinton High School and Middle School. Find out more about her in this week’s edition of Meet Your Neighbor.

What is your favorite thing about teaching ESL for the Clinton School District?

To see how my students gain success. My biggest goal is to not just have them learn English but also to become successful in life.

What made you want to become a teacher?

I was inspired by an english teacher in Ukraine. When I moved here it was difficult to find a job right away because I realized it took some time to get my social security number, green card and to become a citizen. I converted my diploma into the American equivalent and I had to come back to take extra classes. I always had this passion about teaching and I was always like it doesn’t matter how long it will take to get my teaching license, I will still do what I enjoy doing.

What was your most recent vacation?

My husband and I went to St. Lucia for our honeymoon. My favorite thing to do there was a tour around the Island, we had a native person with us who gave us a tour and showed us different places. Im afraid of snakes and when we were driving by we saw a person with a snake and I was able to hold it. I felt like it was big achievement, I was brave enough to do that.

What is your favorite restaurant in Clinton?

I like Candlelight Inn, my favorite dish is Chicken George.

What do you like to do on the weekends?

I like to spend time with my family: two sons, Arnold and Mark, three stepchildren, Hannah, Justine, and Andrew and my husband, Dr. Krueger. We like different activities outside like playing tennis, going hiking, and going different places.
