Rena M. Topham

FREDONIA, Kan. — Rena M. Topham, age 85, of Fredonia, died Saturday, October 31, 2009, at her home. Rena was born April 22, 1924, to Dietrick H. and Susan F. (Conyer) Ubben in Peabody, Kansas.

On September 16, 1940, Rena married James D. Topham in Peabody, Kansas. Rena and James were married for 60 years until his death in 2000.

Rena was a farmer; she also drove a school bus for many years for the Fredonia School District, and the local Thanks bus. Rena enjoyed going to all the different school activities. She enjoyed quilting and working with crafts. She was a member of the Democratic Committee and enjoyed playing either her accordion or piano for local dances.

Rena is survived by one daughter, Geneva Jones of Chanute, Kansas; two sons, Terry J. and wife, Janet Topham, of Fulton, Illinois, Garry D. and wife, Janet Topham, of Joplin, Missouri; one sister, Georgia Laloutte of Florence, Kansas; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; grandson, David L. Lacey; and 7 brothers and sisters.

Cremation has been requested. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Benefiel officiating.
