Kathryn L. “Kay” Hamilton
FULTON, Ill. — Kathryn L. “Kay” Hamilton, 82, of Fulton, died Sunday, November 1, 2009, at her home.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at the Fulton Chapel-Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Laura Wessels, director of ministries at Second Reformed Church, Fulton, will be officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at the Fulton Chapel-Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross Gateway Area Chapter.
She was born May 7, 1927, in Erie, IL, to Earl and Mary (Hussong) Huizenga.
Kay was a 1945 graduate of Erie High School, Erie, IL, and a graduate of Sterling School of Beauty.
She married John H. “Jack” Hamilton on January 28, 1948, in Fulton, IL; he survives.
Kay was employed by the former Fidelity Life Insurance Company of Fulton, IL. She then owned and operated Kay’s Beauty Shop in Fulton for over 50 years. Most recently, she served as beautician for Harbor Crest Nursing Home. Later she was employed by Gate City Steel, Sterling, IL.
Kay was a longtime member of the American Red Cross Gateway Area Chapter. She was also a volunteer for the Y.W.C.A. of Clinton, IA, the Republican Women’s Committee and was a reading volunteer for the Fulton Elementary School. Kay was a member of The Wa-Tan-Ye’s, Women’s Service Club and American Legion Auxiliary all of Fulton. She was a former Sunday school teacher at the Second Reformed Church, Fulton, IL. Kay was an avid Cubs, Bears and Fighting Illini fan and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Jack; two sons, Mark (Sandy) Hamilton of Fulton, IL, and David (Lynn) Hamilton of Fulton, IL; five grandchildren, Amy (Tim) Hartig, Jill Hamilton (Kevin Hamstra), Joni (Jake) VanDeWostine; Kara (Seth) Spooner, Darcy Hamilton; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Hartig, Haylee Hamstra; three sisters, Edna (Wayne) Sikkema of Fulton, IL, Marie (George) Pelletier of Silvis, IL, Grace (Marvin) DeWeerdt of Sun City, AZ; and special friend, Mary Lou Adkin of Clinton, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Joyce Temple and in infancy, Shirley Huizenga; two brothers, Johnnie Huizenga and E. Donald Huizenga.
