Gerald L. Cheramy

CLINTON — Gerald L. Cheramy, 79, of Clinton, died Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Strackbein, Tony Verfaillie, Zach Luskey, Jed Cheramy and Chris Byrns. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gerald Louis Cheramy was born on January 31, 1930, the son of Albert and Grace (Berkett) Cheramy. He married Janet Shore-Graham on October 5, 1984, in Clinton.

Gerald was a 1948 graduate of Clinton High School.

Gerald was a longtime self-employed concrete mason serving the area for many years.

Gerald was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, a past member of the Odeon and the Eagles Club. He also served on the chain gang at the Clinton High Football games from 1948 until recently.

Gerald is survived by a wife, Janet of Clinton; four daughters, Lynn (Tom) Verfaillie of Circleville, Ohio, Charlene (Mike) Howard of Clinton, Iowa, Janet Luskey of Valparaiso, Indiana, Patricia (Mike) Byrns of Clinton, Iowa; three sons, Gerald (Tammy) Cheramy of Clinton, Iowa, Bryan Cheramy of Clinton, Iowa, George (Cathy) Cheramy of Clinton, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; four stepsons, Robert (Janniel) Graham of Chesterfield, Virginia, Daniel Graham of Richmond, Virginia, John (Joy) Graham of Amelia, Virginia, and Mark (Kimberley) Graham of Clinton, Iowa; 10 stepgrandchildren and 4 stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Diane (Richard) Royer of Dallas, Texas, and Delores Cramm of Clinton, Iowa.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two great-grandchildren.
