Garnet A. Schroeder

CLINTON — Garnet A. Schroeder, age 83, of Clinton, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at the Pape Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the service time Tuesday at the church.

Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her nephews, Gary, Kenneth, Kevin, Phil, Pat and Tim Determan.

Garnet was born in Maquoketa, Iowa, the daughter of Reese E. and Augusta M. Mann Taylor. She graduated from Maquoketa High School. Garnet married Gordon Schroeder on Sept. 21, 1951, in Iowa City. Garnet had been employed with the Clinton Brewery, Machaels Oil Company, Eagle Foods and at the Clinton County Courthouse. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Garnet enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan, and couldn’t miss Days of Our Lives. She completed the daily puzzles in the paper, read romance novels and enjoyed game shows.

Garnet is survived by her husband, Gordon; a daughter, Chery (Darrell) Gruntorad of Clinton; a son, Robert (Laura) Schroeder of Clinton; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Doris (Jerry) Determan of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews.

Garnet was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Barbara Huizinga in 2006; three brothers; and a sister.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
