After the Clinton Humane Society Board meeting Feb. 19, we felt that it was necessary to clear up at least one question that was not answered. Although several were not read entirely or answered clearly, or at all, this states the actual question as presented.

I was saddened about the unfortunate death of Anna Nicole Smith, who died at age 39.
Last year, Iowa smokers paid almost $185 million in cigarette taxes, tobacco taxes and settlements to the state — that’s part of the reason there’s a $1.3 billion surplus in the state general fund.
I have been following with growing disgust the crusade of Gov. Culver and others to raise the state cigarette tax another $1 per pack.

When I picked up my paper Jan. 25 and read the “Odor Complaints Decrease” headline, I almost had a stroke.
Magnanimously, former Governor and presidential candidate Tom Vilsack worked very hard for the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Iowa, and as president he will do the same for the entire nation.

I’m writing this letter for a man whom by many is considered a community hero, Vinson Jetter.
Clinton property taxpayers are now going to pay the eighth highest tax rate in the state of Iowa for the fiscal year 2007 taxes (ending June 30, 2007). Last year’s levy rates made Clinton the ninth highest rate, and in fiscal year 2005 they were the seventh highest rate.
One of the objectives of the Clinton County Democratic Party is to interest people in the democratic process and encourage them to participate. We especially want to encourage young people.
Honorably, democracy has been bled and died for. With a democracy comes the right to vote.
Farmers in the Quad-Cities play a critical role in the strength of our regional and state economics. We are writing to share with you the support State Rep. Mike Boland has shown local farmers.

We have a Republican Vice President running around the country scaring the public with unsubstantiated fears about the future should the Democrats resume some power in the Congress.
Polly Bukta and Roger Stewart are deserving of support for the Iowa Legislature. They have served well in the past, support education and have kept taxes down.
I have two reasons for writing this letter: as a parent and as the director of operations and education for the Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency.
We are all outraged that a congressman would abuse his position to prey upon minors.
