New school board member details his goals

I want to extend my congratulations to Joni Kittoe for her recent election to the Clinton School Board.

I also wish to thank all of the people that made the effort to vote, and, particularly, those who voted for me; I will give my best effort to the district.

For those that were unable to watch or listen to the candidates forum on Sept. 6, I would like to reiterate a few key points from my remarks. First, it is imperative that our district work with the state legislature to resolve the funding issue in our district. The State of Iowa has to make more funds available for our schools; the taxpayers can’t do it all themselves.

Second, the 21st Century program, along with a strong set of pre-school activities, needs to be funded. These programs save society a great deal of money in the long run. Finally, our curriculum. The curriculum is the educational lighthouse on the shore of our district. It is our most important resource and the teachers, with help from the staff, administer this resource. What can we do to help? How can we make it better? We have to be accountable for the curriculum because if it is weak now, we will all be weaker in the future.

Our children deserve our best effort. I appreciate the opportunity that the voters have given me to help work for our children’s future.

Stephen Teney,

Clinton
