Reserve police officers Megan Goodall, Loren Knudson, Todd Malone and Jeff Wartgow were approved to carry weapons, in this case OC spray-a type of pepper spray, after approval by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. They have all passed the required training but prior approval by the city is required.
A lien of $395 against 910 12th Ave. was released because the money was received through the state’s income offset program. The lien was for delinquent water and sewer bills.
The council approved a temporary street closure for Central High School’s homecoming parade on Oct. 3 and the purchase of a retired community sign by Grace Lutheran Camp Board for $100.
Lindner told the council more detailed shed provisions were needed for the city’s zoning regulations. Rules that are currently enforced are not all in writing and any additional ones should be included. Presently structures larger than 12 feet by 10 feet need a permit with a maximum size of 12 feet by 18 feet and are allowed in rear yards.
Setback requirements are usually five feet from the property line and eight feet from the principal building. A written policy is needed to define sheds, determine when permits are needed and decide how many sheds can be on a residential lot.
