---- — ELVIRA — Forty-five painstakingly restored early tractors were driven 56 miles across the middle of Clinton County on Sept. 7 in the 10th annual Great Welton Tractor Ride.
Kent Petersen, organizer of the event, told the Herald he visited a Tractorcade in Cedar Rapids several years ago and decided the same thing would be fun in Clinton County. This year’s tractors gathered at his house north of Welton and traveled east to Elvira, where the drivers took “a nice break under the trees,” and enjoyed refreshments served by members of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church.
“We had a great time there,” Petersen said.
Then the tractors rolled south to Larry Kindelsperger’s place, where the drivers viewed his collection of restored John Deere tractors. Then it was on to McCausland for a ham dinner at the Community Center prepared by Bernies Corner Market.
It was time to start back toward home, but in going through DeWitt, the tractor ride went past Maggie’s House and United Manor, where the residents of the assisted living facilities were waiting to wave them on.
The ride concluded at 5 p.m.
