CLINTON — The Catholic Historical Center at St. Boniface hosted a founder’s day event this past weekend.
The Determan family was honored Saturday as a founding family of the Determan Settlement north and west of Lyons in the 1840s. They also worked on the founding of St. Irenaeus and then helped start St. Boniface in 1863.
Historic displays, tours and genealogical information were available within the center and games, tables, chairs and social time were on the church grounds. Two attractions, the grotto and the new cupola, were of interest. The grotto has been refurbished and plans to enhance it are being carried out.
This ornate feature from St. Patrick’s Church is now permanently mounted on a concrete pedestal as constructed by a committee of donors and workmen who put the project into operation.
The Catholic Historical Center plans to honor pioneer Catholic families each year who have been instrumental in forming the five former parishes of Clinton and Lyons.
