New dog on the block

---- — CLINTON — If ketchup on a hot dog is your pleasure, that's fine. But don't expect it to come standard at Clinton's newest hot dog business where it will be all about the Chicago-style dog.

"We'll have ketchup here if you want to throw it on your hot dog, but that's not really Chicago-style," co-owner Geno Miller, 21, of Clinton, said.

The yet-to-be-named hot dog joint will open at 201 Fifth Ave. South around mid-August.

Hungry residents will find Vienna Beef hot dogs ready to be adorned with mustard, onions, tomato, relish, sport peppers, a pickle spear and celery salt. Miller, along with fellow owners, his father Samuel Tan and brother, Gerge, also will sell Polish sausage and fountain drinks, and have daily specials such as chili dogs.

The family moved to Clinton from Chicago three months ago. Miller said he's always wanted to open a restaurant and saw Clinton as the perfect place to carry out his dream.

"We want to bring Chicago to Clinton — the food not the people," Miller said. "I didn't see anything like that around here. Plus downtown is happening."

They don't have hours or prices yet planned, but they do know the restaurant will have a counter along the window facing Second Street where patrons can savor their Chicago-style treat.

"It's all about coming in and getting your eat on," Miller said.
