DAVENPORT— Manufacturing jobs are available for those who look for them. Eastern Iowa Community College’s Blong Technology Center is helping in that search with its upcoming Advanced Manufacturing Career Fair, from 2 to 6 p.m April 29.
Several area employers will be on hand to visit with job searchers. The event is free of charge and everyone is welcome. Attendees are encouraged to bring their resumes along with them.
The Blong Technology Center is located at 8500 Hillandale Road. To get to the center take Interstate 80 to the Maysville/292 Exit, north onto Northwest Boulevard. Turn right at the lights onto Hillandale Road and the BTC is less than a mile ahead on the left.
“We held our first career fair last year and it was such a success that we decided to make it an annual event,” said BTC Director of Operations Dan Martin. “Our hallway was completely lined with employers and we were surprised and pleased with the number of prospective workers who visited. We’re hoping to have at least that many people stop in again this time.”
The career fair is sponsored by Iowa’s I-AM Consortium, which is financed through a $12 million grant from the Department of Labor’s Employment & Training Administration.
The BTC works with employers to train students for the skills needed for direct entry into the job market. The college recently unveiled a new Engineering Technology program funded by a statewide grant.
Other programs include welding, CNC machining, mechanical design and drafting, manufacturing maintenance, renewable energy and logistics.
