MAQUOKETA — A National Wildlife Refuge manager will present a program on lead’s effects on bald eagles.
Ed Britton, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Refuge manager, will deliver the presentation at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Hurstville Interpretive Center in Maquoketa.
Researchers at the refuge began a study in 2012 on lead exposure in bald eagles on the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge. Thousands of bald eagles winter and hundreds nest on the refuge.
Britton will speak about lead ammunition used for hunting and how it affects wildlife.
