---- — MAQUOKETA — The Community Foundation of Jackson County Board of Directors has announced the following grants awarded during the March grant cycle.

The foundation also unveiled a new endowment challenge for new or existing endowment funds held at the Community Foundation.

A core component to a community foundation’s mission is to grow permanent endowment funds for the benefit of charitable projects and programs that make a difference in Jackson County communities. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that all Iowa communities are vibrant places where individuals are proud to live, raise their families, work and retire.

As part of the Community Foundation’s 2013 grant-making program, Seeds for Success Endowment Challenges are available for new or existing endowment fund holders. For each fund that brings in $7,500 in new contributions, the Community Foundation will provide a $2,500 matching grant award. This program allows an endowment fund to reach the $10,000 level, providing an annual payout to support the good work non-profits are doing throughout Jackson County. Four of these matching grant awards are available and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

The following entities were also awarded grants:

• Andrew firemen – $3,000

• Little Bear Park – $25,000

• Maquoketa Public Library – $4,345

• Miles Mavericks – $400
