---- — CAMANCHE — A recent donation in the memory of Richard Farr has helped continue a long-standing program through the Camanche Fire Department.
The donation allows the department to purchase more smoke detectors. A majority of the project is funded by private donations from individuals and businesses.
The Camanche Fire Department has 10-year smoke detectors available to the community. These detectors are powered with a long-life battery. The department recently purchased an additional 100 detectors with the assistance of donation in Farr’s memory.
Those who have an older battery-operated smoke detectors (non-hardwired) can have these upgraded detectors. The 10-year detectors are free to the community and a member of the fire department will install the detectors at no charge.
In the past two years, the department has installed 1,077 smoke detectors.
