CLINTON — The third annual 5K run/walk to benefit the St. Irenaeus Cultural Center will be held Memorial Day.
The “When the Saints Go Marchin’ In” starts at 8 a.m. Monday outside of St. Irenaeus at 2811 N. Second St. Runners and walkers can register before the race for $15. Same day registration is $20.
Members of the Clinton Historical Society have been fundraising to renovate the facility, which is Clinton’s oldest Catholic church, so it can be used for community and other events.
The proceeds from the race will go toward renovations at St. Irenaeus. Clinton County Historical Society treasurer Jan Hansen said the funds raised from this run/walk will be applied to remodeling the basement and rewiring the facility.
“We’re getting more and more done, but there’s still a lot to do,” Hansen said.
Race participants will begin outside St. Irenaeus and then go south turning right at 25th Avenue North onto Pershing Boulevard, then south to the turn-around at 11th Avenue North and back to St. Irenaeus.
Hansen said all participants will receive a T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to the top three participants in each class for men and women. There will be a post-race reception with refreshments for the participants.
“Besides being just something that is fun to do, it’s actually healthy for you and it’s a good way to be a part of the community. Be a part of St. Irenaeus and keep it alive,” Hansen said.
Volunteers are still needed to staff the event from 7:30 a.m. until the event ends.
