CCC announces Visiting Artist season lineup

CLINTON — Clinton Community College is pleased to announce upcoming performances for the 2013-2014 Visiting Artist season.

This is the 40th year that CCC has offered these performances for the community as part of the Quad Cities Arts, a program that strives to make the program accessible to people of all walks of life, including students, seniors, and working people. Performances will be held in both Clinton and in Maquoketa throughout the year.

Scheduled performances include:

• Meg Okura – Asian Jazz Crossover - Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m., Clinton Community College – CCC Technology Center, 941 Manufacturing Drive, Clinton.

Composer, erhu player and premiere jazz violinist Meg Okura leads of groups of virtuosi inventing and defining “World chamber jazz” today. The ensemble mixes a classically trained mastery of strings, piano and drums with quick-witted compositional twist performed with high energy.

• Destino – Pop Opera Quartet, Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. at CCC Maquoketa Center – CCC Maquoketa Center, 501 W. Washington St., Maquoketa.

Made up of three young men and a young woman who love making beautiful music together, Destino has created something completely different — two very different voices and two very different instrumentalists, all able to stand on their own, but together forming a truly talented and unique troop.

• Galumpha — Comedic Dance, Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at CCC Maquoketa Center – CCC Maquoketa Center, 501 W. Washington St., Maquoketa.

Combining stunning acrobatics, striking visual effects, physical comedy and inventive choreography, Galumpha brings to life a world of innovation, beauty, muscle and merriment. The three performers create a sensory feast of images ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime.

• Jen Chapin Trio — Folk Trio, Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 7 p.m. at Clinton Community College – CCC Technology Center, 941 Manufacturing Drive, Clinton.

Praised as “…soulfully poetic urban folk music,” this is a blend of funky folk and earthy jazz. Chapin has been honored by the USA Songwriting Competition.

All performances are free. Contact Clinton Community College at 244-7001 for more information.
