Library gearing up for Autumn Fest

CLINTON — Celebrate autumn and the library on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. During the street fair that runs from 10:30 to noon, attendees can watch a special performance by movement artist, Sarah Haas. Later, enjoy live music provided by local band One Brick Shy, lunch supplied by the Cattlemen’s Association – sandwich, chips and drink for $2 and a bake sale offered by the Clinton High Drum Line. At 12:30 p.m., Library Director Amy Birtell will share exciting information with the public about the library building project. From 1-2 p.m. attendees can participate in cake walks. Cakes are being provided by individuals, local businesses and organizations. Bring a lawn chair to watch the band.

Bake a fruit pie for Autumn fest. Community members are invited to enter a fruit pie in a pie-baking contest that will be judged on the day of the event. Pies must be fruit, homemade and entered in the name of the person who baked it with one entry per person. Prizes will be awarded to first and second place. The judging will take place at 11 a.m. with announcement of the two top pies by Library Director Amy Birtell at 12:30 p.m.

Afternoon Adventures. Grossology Day. Explore your world on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Open to children in grades first through fifth. Are you brave enough to face gross stuff? Come to the library on Oct. 2 to test your mettle.

Story time. The theme for next week is If you see a mouse. Come in to enjoy stories about mice. Preschool story time will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. Toddler Time will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m. If you have questions, please contact children’s staff at 243-5436.

Adult Book Clubs. In October, book clubs will meet again with discussion leader Holly Youngquist. Geek Reads for science fiction and fantasy readers is reading classic science fiction novel, “Fahrenheit 451’” by Ray Bradbury. The group will meet on the second Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 5:30 p.m. The Happily Ever After book club for romance lovers will venture into paranormal romance with “Second Sight” by Amanda Quick and will get together on the third Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 5:30 p.m. Killer Reads for mystery fans will gather on the fourth Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 5:30 p.m. The next read is to be decided. Check the column next week for what the upcoming read will be for this book club. Contact the library to sign up and order your books for check out. Snacks will be provided for attendees.
