FULTON, Ill. — Students and faculty in the River Bend School District can soon expect changes to school policy involving social media and communication.
Board members met Wednesday to discuss the policy and what needed to be amended for the upcoming school year.
The new policy will include a zero-tolerance stance on any method of communication between faculty members and students that is not approved by the district. Text messaging, emailing and any social media interaction will be deemed as unacceptable behavior by the revised policy. Any infraction of the new rules may result in dismissal of the violator.
The discussion also included interaction between student athletes and all coaching staff. A special note was made to ensure that all volunteer coaches were accountable for the new regulations as well.
Communication guidelines between faculty and parents or guardians will not be affected by the new revisions. Further discussion is necessary regarding the new guidelines, but board members will have an updated policy at the next school board meeting on June 17.
