Election results announced in Whiteside, Carroll counties

Tuesday, Illinois citizens voted in the consolidated election. Polls closed at 7 p.m. in Whiteside and Carroll County. Election results were released on the Web site, http://www.gbsvote.com.

A total of 28.1 percent of the registered voters in Carroll County, or 3,292 voters, participated in Tuesday’s election. In Whiteside County, 9,610 voters, which is 24.77 percent of registered voters, participated in the election. This election resulted in some changes in local leadership.



Carroll County

The Chadwick elections saw little competition as all candidates ran unopposed. Zelma McNeal was named Village President. Janice M. Queckboerner was elected Village Clerk. The three open Village Trustee positions were filled by Virginia Brinkmeier, Rick Bosacki and Daniel Tegeler.

In the mayoral election in Mount Carroll, Carl R. Bates beat out Robert Sisler with 415 votes to 179 votes. The three alderman positions and city clerk position were all unopposed. Julie A. Cuckler was named City Clerk. Douglas P. Bergren was elected for Alderman ward 1. Doris M. Bork was chosen for Alderman Ward 2. William Sparboe was named Alderman Ward 3.

Competition was more prevalent in the Savanna elections, where Larry J. Stebbins won over William C. Lease, with a total of 416 votes to 247 votes. Paul Hartman ran unopposed as City Clerk. Gail Dawn Bowman narrowly beat Carol L. Fosdick for the full term position as Alderman Ward 1 with 75 votes to 54 votes. The race for the unexpired two-year term for Alderman Ward 1 was a close one as William A. Grummitt won against Chad Corbett with 65 votes to 60. Rosalie Hansen ran unopposed for Alderman Ward 2. Charles Aaron Slagley II beat Lois D. Hunsaker for Alderman Ward 3. William Robinson was unopposed for Alderman Ward 4.

Jerry Hebeler was re-elected as Village President after beating Donna M. Opheim 130 votes to 47 votes. Arieta J. Vian was unopposed for Village Clerk. The three open Village Trustee positions were filled by Russ Gies, Vicky Bealer Trager and Randy Starr.

School elections were also held. In the West Carroll Community Unit School District 314, there was no competition as candidates ran unopposed. Beverly Kilpatrick was elected onto the board of education for district one. John Charles Bringham was elected for district three. Michael D. Highland was chosen for district six. No candidate was running for the open seat for district seven. However, a total of 83 write-in votes were received.

For the Chadwick-Milledgeville Community Unit School District 399, Kimberly Gebhardt, Sandi Baylor-Schmidt, Elizabeth Hutchinson and David Wagenknecht were chosen for the four open positions on the board of education.



Whiteside County

In the Albany Village President race, Robert D. Bitler beat candidates Ricky L. Dettman and Eugene Walerius. Bitler received 109 votes. Dettman received 82 votes. Walerius received 56 votes. Deanne J. Anglese ran unopposed for Village Clerk. A. Brian Rowland, Scott D. Gardner and Scott P. Manon were elected for the three open Village Trustee positions.

Marcia M. Smith ran unopposed for Erie Village President. Michelle L. Misfeldt ran unopposed for Village Clerk. The three open Village Trustee positions are filled by Jeff Wirth, Kathy Kuhnen and Robert Hunter Jr.

In the Fulton elections, Larry W. Russell beat the incumbent, Howard VanZuiden, for mayor with 538 votes to 261 votes. The city clerk and four open alderman positions were all unopposed. Linda Hollis was named City Clerk. Eugene Field was elected Alderman Ward 1. Merle Sterenberg was named Alderman Ward 2. Warren Juist was chosen for Alderman Ward 3. William Loerop was chosen as Alderman Ward 4.

Competition was low in Morrison, as all positions were unopposed. Roger K. Drey was elected mayor. Melanie T. Schroeder was named City Clerk. Guy “Gus” Hayenga was elected Alderman Ward 1. Sarah Thorndike was chosen as Alderman Ward 2. Patricia D. Zuidema was chosen as Alderman Ward 3. David W. Rose was named Alderman Ward 4.

In the Erie Community Unit School District 1, nine candidates were up for four open positions. Rhonda Pannier, Charles W. Brown Jr., Mike Heun and Thomas A. Pons were elected for the open seats on the board of education.

In River Bend Community Unit School District 2, Mark Wade ran unopposed for the unexpired two-year term on the board of education. Jane Orman Luker, Eric J. Fish and Daniel Paul Portz were elected to the three open full-term positions on the board of education.

In the Morrison Community Unit School District 6, two candidates ran for the three open full terms on the board of education. Douglas Pannier and Erik Carlson will serve on the board. A total of 96 write-in votes were given.

The proposition for a one percent sales tax to be used for school facilities in Whiteside County was again voted down. The sales tax was first voted on in Whiteside County in November 2008. The proposition failed with 4,227 votes for it and 5,176 votes against it.
