Registration starts in summer youth program

DAVENPORT — Iowa at Work, a part of Eastern Iowa Community College District, announced recently it received funding through the stimulus package to administer a summer youth program in eastern Iowa.

Youths aged 16 through 24, who are residents of Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine and Scott counties are eligible to participate. The program will be funded through the region’s share of Iowa Workforce Investment Act’s statewide $4.4 million summer youth program.

The program will run June 8 through July 31 and will allow youth to work with and for area non-profits. Priority will be given to “green” jobs such as recycling, renewable energy , energy efficiency and conservation.

Register online at Iowajobs.org and to print out the application and other paperwork, go to Iowaatwork9.org.

Participants must meet Workforce Investment Act youth program income and other guidelines before referral to job sites. If no computer access is viable, contact the closest Iowa at Work office.

Iowa at Work will also send out work site applications to non-profit agencies in the region. If the site does not receive an application and would like to participate, contact the closest Iowa at Work office.
