Police academy graduation is May 12

CLINTON — The Citizen Police Academy XIV will graduate on May 12.

Commencement exercises will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the CCC Technology Center, 1951 Manufacturing Drive, Clinton.

Co-sponsors of the program are Clinton Police Department and Clinton Community College, with funding partner Clinton National Bank. Citizen Police Academy is designed to give participants a working knowledge of the Clinton Police Department. Following the ceremony, the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association will host a reception.

Citizen Police Academy aims to develop positive relations and to create better understanding and communication between citizens of Clinton and their police department through education; to create a growing nucleus of responsible, well-informed citizens who have the potential of influencing public opinion about police practices and services. The series of classes and discussions held once a week explore topics such as Iowa law, operating while intoxicated, field training, criminal investigations, K-9 search, dignitary protection, H.E.A.T. and firearms, crime scene investigations, school resource officer and the judicial system.

These classes, led by local officials and police officers, provide an in-depth view of various areas of law enforcement. The Academy is an educational and informative program that allows citizens the opportunity to learn about the issues that effect law enforcement efforts in the city of Clinton.
