Details released in late night crash

By Danica Baker
Herald Staff Writer

CLINTON — Police have released more details about an accident in the 2400 block of Camanche Avenue at 11:28 p.m. Wednesday night.

According to a press release, Chirstopher L. Cundiff, 27, and Lucas S. Stevens, 23, of Camanche, were driving east in a four-door 1999 Oldsmobile 88 on Camanche Avenue when the vehicle traveled up onto the parkway on the south side of the road, then crossed four lanes of traffic and came to final rest against a retaining wall at Snodgrass Motors, located at 2434 Camanche Ave.

Emergency units from the Clinton Police Department and Clinton Fire Department responded to the single-vehicle accident and the first units on scene reported a fire in the damaged vehicle, which was extinguished by witnesses and emergency personnel.

Stevens was transported to Mercy North Hospital by ambulance and later transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Hospital officials said Thursday that they have no information available regarding Stevens.

The Clinton Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to extricate Cundiff, who was transported to the 1000 block of South 14th Street by city ambulance and then transported by MedForce Helicopter to Genesis East Hospital in Davenport. A hospital official said he is listed in fair condition.

The release states the retaining wall at Snodgrass Motors was damaged extensively. Two of the vehicles sitting on the lot also were damaged.

The Clinton Police Department was assisted in the investigation of the accident by the Iowa State Patrol. The accident remains under investigation by members of the Clinton Police Department Traffic Crash Investigation Unit.
