CLINTON — This year’s Clinton Memorial Day service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday indoors at the Lemke Funeral Home, in the new South Chapel. The service is being moved indoors due to weather predictions.
This year’s speaker will be Iowa State Rep. Polly Bukta, D-Clinton. Bukta represents District 26, which covers part of Clinton County, and has been a member of the Iowa House of Representatives since 1997. She was elected the first woman Speaker Pro Tempore of the Iowa House in 2006. Bukta serves on the Education, Transportation, Local Government and Veterans Affairs committees.
Bukta is a member of Prince of Peace Parish in Clinton. She is also an active member of the community, working with numerous business and civic organizations.
The service will include a welcome and introduction of guests and the combined veterans organizations.
An invocation will be given by Don Krambeck, chaplain of the American Legion Post 190. Clinton Mayor Rodger Holm will give the Memorial Day welcome.
This year’s honor roll will consist of 150 Clinton, Camanche and Fulton, Ill., veterans.
The Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem and a Salute to the Dead also will be featured in the service.
After the program, people are welcome to attend a luncheon at the AMVETS Club, 1317 S. 17th St., at no cost. Donations will be accepted.
