1 death, 3 injuries in crash

CAMANCHE — One death and three injuries were the result of a three-vehicle crash near Camanche on Thursday.

Theresa Hynous, 47, of Camanche, was southbound on U.S. 67 when she struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Norma Fairbanks, 74, also of Camanche. Hynous then entered the northbound lane and was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by Ryan Chapman, 33, of Clinton.

Hynous was pronounced dead on scene, according to a Camanche Police Department release.

Fairbanks, Chapman and injured passenger James Harden, 45, of Clinton, were transported to Mercy North Hospital.

The Camanche Fire Department and Ambulance Service responded to the scene at 2:45 p.m., and found two occupants out of their vehicles. The other two occupants needed to be extricated from their vehicles.

Officials closed the highway for approximately 21⁄2 hours.

The incident is being investigated by the Camanche Police Department, Clinton County Sheriffs Office and the Iowa State Patrol.

The Camanche Fire Department responded with two ambulances, one engine company, two support vehicles and 18 personnel. Assisting the Camanche Fire Department were the Clinton Fire Department Paramedics, Med Force Helicopter, Camanche Police Department, Clinton County Sheriffs Office, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DOT, Clinton County MEI, Adrian’s Auto Service and Downtown Towing.
