DEWITT — In a special meeting Friday, the Central Community School Board employed Daniel Peterson as its new superintendent.
He is replacing Carol Hansen, who is moving to Kansas City.
Peterson will be at his new position July 1. Previously, he was superintendent of Wapsi Valley Schools in Fairbank for four years and prior to that their middle school/high school principal for two years.
He has a teaching background in vocal and instrumental music and is currently working on his doctoral dissertation through the University of Northern Iowa. The district offered Peterson a three-year contract with a salary of $125,000 the first year and a renegotiated salary the remaining years.
“I think we’re very lucky to get him,” Business Director Jan Culbertson said.
Board member Jim Irwin thanked Ray and Associates of Cedar Rapids for gathering 38 applications with nine finalists. The district interviewed four candidates.
Peterson is married and has four young children. There will be an open house sometime in July to introduce him to the community.
