CLINTON — The Clinton City Council awarded two contracts totaling about $1.4 million for road repairs throughout the city Tuesday.
The council met Tuesday night instead of next week because the Midwest League All-Star Game at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton is scheduled for the same time as the meeting. The council will next meet June 30.
Portzen Construction was awarded a $373,000 contract for road repairs and Determann Aspahalt Paving was awarded a $1.1 million contract.
Now that the contracts have been awarded, road crews could begin working on the 107-block project by the end of the month.
According to the city schedule, some of the roads will either be closed or have one lane open.
Woodland Avenue Drive between 13th Avenue North and Breezy Point Drive will be closed for three weeks. Also, 22nd Avenue North between Second Street and Pershing Boulevard will be closed for three weeks.
In other action, the council approved $18,000 for lamps to help light the bike path running from Ninth Avenue North to 19th Avenue North.
The project will also be matched by the Clinton County Community Development Association.
