Braley e-mail details funding

— CAMANCHE — During the Camanche City Council’s meeting on Tuesday night, Mayor Jim Robertson presented an e-mail communication concerning funding for emergency generators for Camanche secured by U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley.
According to the e-mail, $187,500 was included in the 2010 fiscal year Homeland Appropriations bill which was passed by the House Appropriations Committee. The bill will now move to the full House for consideration.
The $187,500 will be used to design and construct emergency generators for the Camanche police and fire departments. The generators would allow first responders to continue operating during power outages and natural disasters.
“Preparing for natural disasters today will help protect area families and businesses in the future,” stated Braley in the release, adding, “I’m proud to secure funding that will keep Camanche safe and ensure that first responders have the resources necessary to help during a natural disaster.”
Robertson said he was grateful for the help Braley has offered with this bill.
Meeting Watch
Camanche City Council
The Camanche City Council met Tuesday night at City Hall for its regular meeting. The following occurred:
• The council approved the resignation of George Current from the Cemetery Board, effective June 8.
• The council approved the purchase of a salt application controller unit for a city dump truck for $7,149.
• The board tabled discussion on a proposal to decrease the speed limit on Ninth Street between 31st Avenue and the Highway 67 bypass from 45 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour.
• The council had the first reading of a proposed ordinance to vacate a portion of an unimproved street “Anthony Place” and a platted public right-of-way between Anthony Place and Third Street. The ordinance will be discussed further at the next regular meeting.
• The council authorized City Administrator, Tom Roth to go for bids for the city’s 1991 Crown Victoria.
