CLINTON — The Clinton Herald is hoping to boost the local economy through a campaign it will kick off on Saturday.
“Spend $20 on the 20th” is an initiative that calls on Clinton, Camanche and Fulton, Ill., residents to help the local economy.
“The idea is that each individual spend an extra 20 dollar bill on the 20th of each month,” said Wayne Larkey, advertising director at the Herald.
Residents are encouraged to spend the $20 locally, at restaurants and businesses in the community.
“If every person in the Clinton, Camanche and Fulton area would spend an extra $20, there would be an influx of well over a half million dollars into the local economy,” Larkey stated. “It’s a pretty simple idea. If we all spend a little more, then the local economy remains strong.”
Larkey indicated that the event is expected to occur each month.
“We will have a special page of advertising that will run on Wednesday and Saturday to promote special deals and give everyone an idea of how they can spend the extra $20 and get the greatest value,” said Larkey. “We encourage everyone in Clinton, Camanche, Fulton and the surrounding area to participate and do their part in keeping our part of the world growing.”
The Herald hopes to see this initiative help not only local businesses, but also individuals in the community.
“The stronger the local economy, the better it is for everyone,” stated Larkey.
