CLINTON — Two Colorado men have pleaded guilty to trespassing after seeking out showers at the Riverview Swimming Pool while canoeing down the Mississippi River.
Baxter Long, 19, of Elizabeth, Colo., and Tyler M. Broeren, 22, of Fort Collins, Colo., pleaded guilty to trespass in Clinton County District Court and were fined $100 each.
According to court documents, Clinton police officers were called to Riverview Swimming Pool at 11:15 p.m. June 19 on a report that two suspects jumped the fence and entered the pool property then hid inside the building once they encountered several employees who were lawfully at the pool after hours.
The documents state six to seven employees were alarmed at the presence of the two men inside the pool area and they locked themselves inside the pool office, thus trapping the two suspects between the employees and the suspects’ escape route.
An officer located Long and Broeren hiding in the corner behind a partition inside the boys’ locker room. Both were held at taser point until back-up officers arrived, the documents say.
Police say the two admitted they had jumped the fence to use the pool and the pool’s showers because they were from Colorado canoeing the Mississippi River and needed showers.
