New covered, secured load policy takes effect Wednesday

CLINTON — The Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency has instituted a new rule aimed at reducing litter and other types of refuse along neighboring roads, neighboring properties, and within agency boundaries.

The new rule, approved by the agency’s board of directors on May 14, states that loads coming into CCASWA must be covered and/or secured. If not covered or secured, then the patron will be charged an additional fee of $25. This rule goes into effect on Wednesday.

“This is a proposed rule which had been discussed in the past,” said Director of Operations and Education Brad Seward. “CCASWA is in the minority of solid waste agencies around the region without such a policy already implemented.

“Now CCASWA is stepping up to do what it can to not only help keep the agency’s property clean, but also neighboring properties and roads.”

Seward said it should be noted that the city of Clinton already has a covered load rule on the books.

Clinton’s fine for violating the covered load rule can reach up to $182.
