lton’s Lincoln Buy-Way sales event, otherwise known as community-wide yard sales, is scheduled for Aug. 7 and 8. Any resident, business or organization located within a community along the Lincoln Highway can participate.
The Fulton Chamber of Commerce and Wa-Tan-Ye Club, of Fulton, have partnered once again to promote this event in Fulton. Participants can register with the Wa-Tan-Ye Club for $5, which will include the sale listed on a map, balloons and a small sign. Maps will be available beginning Aug. 1 at the Fulton Oil Gas Station, Shell Gas Station and Fulton City Hall. Event goers also can download a map from the city’s Web site beginning Aug. 1 at www.cityoffulton.us.
At the time of registration, sellers will provide a brief listing of sale items and indicate dates of sale. Sale times and days should be from at 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. Registration dates and times are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 21 and 22, Fulton Township Building, Fourth Street and 10th Avenue; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 23 and 24, River City Mall, 1426 10th Ave.
The Lincoln Highway was the first transcontinental highway in America, spanning from New York to San Francisco. In 2005, the National Lincoln Highway Association, headquartered in Indiana, wanted to create more recognition for the Lincoln Highway. The association decided to organize the world’s longest yard sale. Currently, four states will be participating in the world’s longest yard sale, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.
