THOMSON, Ill. — A Thomson teenager has died after a rollover accident on Wednesday.
According to officials, Sonya Foster, 18, of Thomson, died at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City on Thursday as a result of the crash.
The one-vehicle rollover accident happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday. Officials report the accident occurred on Illinois 84, about one-half mile south of Riverview Road.
The vehicle was northbound on Illinois 84, and officials believe it left the roadway and rolled over after the vehicle swerved to miss a deer.
Foster was thrown from the vehicle, and was transported by Savanna Ambulance to Mercy North Hospital before being transferred to Iowa City.
An 11-year-old female passenger in the vehicle was transported to Mercy North Hospital, where she was treated and released.
Assisting the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Thomson Fire and Ambulance, and Savanna Ambulance and Police Departments. The accident remains under investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Officer.
