Activities, classes aim for craft enthusiasts, parents, scrapbookers

CLINTON — Several classes and activities have been planned at the YWCA and YMCA. Activities range from craft classes like scrapbooking to dealing with parenting and baby related health issues. The common component in all though, is a shared interest in parenting and the support of others dealing with similar issues.

Following is a list of classes and activities of special interest to parents:

Colic Support — If you’ve ever been at your wits end trying to calm a colicky baby, this group is for you. Not only will you support each other, but techniques will be taught to help your colicky child. You’ll learn baby massage, aroma and sound therapy and more. The group will meet from 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays at the YWCA. It’s free to YW/YM members and is $3 per meeting for non-members.

Parenting Class — Network with other parents, get new ideas and celebrate your children’s milestones. Each week a different topic will be discussed. The class meets at the YW from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Mondays and/or Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. It’s free to YW/YM members. The fee for non-members is $31 for an 8-week session.

Scrapbooking Club — Set aside time twice a month to gather and organize your photos when you attend Scrapbooking Club. Share ideas, make friends and then enjoy snacks. The club meets from 9 to 10:30 a.m. the first and third Wednesdays at the YWCA. It’s free to YW/YM members and $5 per meeting for non-members.

Craft Fun — Learn a variety of crafts and enjoy social time. You’ll be able to try your hand at working with clay and paper maché, making jewelry, learning cross stitch and more. Craft Fun is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. Fridays at the YW. The fee is $5 per meeting for members and $10 per meeting for non-members.

Cooking Club — While your pre-schooler (3 to 5 years) is playing games in our gym, you’ll learn how to make healthy, fun snacks. Before leaving you’ll all meet to share snacks. Cooking Club meets from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursdays at the YW. It’s free for YW/YM members and is $5 per meeting for non-members.

Stroller Workout — Do you have a young child and just can’t find the time to workout? Now you can workout with your child’s help. You’ll learn how to turn your stroller into a portable fitness machine as the stroller provides resistance, stability and movement. All of the activity, music and play with your baby create a stimulating environment. Stroller workout meets from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays at the YMCA. It’s free to YW/YM members and is $5 per meeting for non-members.

Babysitting is provided free at the YW while parents use the facility or take a class. Babysitting times are from 8:15 to 11 a.m. and 4 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. To register for any of the above classes, call the YWCA at 242-2110 or the YMCA at 243-1364. More information may also be found at www.ywca.org/clinton.
