Community Care to close residential care facility

By Samantha Pidde

Herald Staff Writer

CHARLOTTE — On Friday, Community Care Inc. announced plans to close its residential care facility in Charlotte.

CCI was formed in 1988 to meet the needs of the disabled population in Clinton County. The organization has grown over the past 20 years, offering services in Clinton, Scott, Jackson, Marion, Jones and Chickasaw counties in Iowa. CCI serves almost 600 individuals annually.

According to a press release from CCI, the combined effects of physical plant issues, low census, reimbursement rates and the shift to community-based services were contributing factors in the decision to close the Charlotte Care Facility. In an effort to provide better integration and more opportunities to those they serve, CCI will be expanding community-based services. Many of the individuals from the facility will be moved to homes. CCI already owns 16 properties in Clinton County and will be obtaining additional properties to meet the growing need for community-based services.

According to the press release, CCI will be partnering with the Department of Human Services, Department of Inspection and Appeal, county CPS’s, community providers, case managers and families to ensure that every individual has a smooth transition to an appropriate placement. The organization will work with the state and other providers to transition the individuals in the most efficient manner so as to not disrupt care. This process is expected to take approximately two months to complete.

CCI will continue to provide and expand other services in Clinton County, including supported community living, home and community based services, intermediate care facilities for the mentally retarded, vocational services and home health. Residential care facility services will continue in Jones, Marion and Chickasaw counties.
