CCI plan leads supervisors to delay decision

By Samantha Pidde
Herald Staff Writer

CLINTON — For the past month, the Clinton County Board of Supervisors has been discussing granting Community Care Inc., a extension on agreement to reimburse the organization a sum of no more than $180,000 to be paid no later than Dec. 31, 2009, for maintenance and work done at the Charlotte facility.

In a statement read at the Friday meeting, Supervisor Jill Davisson, who was absent, wrote she had been prepared to approve an extension to June 30, 2010.

However, the news that CCI would be closing the Charlotte facility, which was released Sept. 4, has presented questions that Davisson and the other supervisors said they felt need to be addressed. A motion to table the topic of the extension until Monday, Sept. 14, was made.

Representatives of CCI were hesitant to push this topic off any further. They said if the extension was going to be denied, they would need as much time as possible to complete demolition plans by the Dec. 31 deadline. Chairman Dennis Starling said while he understands CCI’s position, this time conflict was not caused by the board.

“This issue has been brought to us in the past 30, 45 days.

“And to put this onto this board's lap to say that we have to move in a very rapid manner when we had five years to accomplish this, is a little unfair to the board too,” said Starling.

He said he felt a weekend would not make a great difference in their schedule, but it would allow them more time to answer any questions CCI’s decision to close the facility has created.

The issue will be discussed further at the board’s meeting on Monday at 10:45 a.m. A decision is expected to be made then.
