Archer sentenced for sex abuse

CLINTON — A Clinton man has been sentenced to serve 25 years in prison after being convicted of second- and third-degree sexual abuse.

Kim D. Archer, 55, 413 First Ave. South, was arrested April 17 and charged with second-degree sexual abuse for alleged offenses against a child under the age of 12, a class B felony, and third-degree sexual abuse for alleged offenses against a child aged 12 to 13, a class C felony.

According to court records, police interviewed the victim in April, who stated the abuse took place repeatedly between 1997 and 2006, when the victim was between the ages of 5 and 13.

The affidavit also states that during a recorded telephone interview on April 16, Archer admitted to numerous sex acts with the child.

Following a one-day trial on July 28 in Clinton County District Court, a jury ruled Archer guilty on both counts on July 29. On Sept. 4, Archer was sentenced to serve a term not to exceed 25 years in the Iowa Department of Corrections on the charge of second-degree sexual abuse.

He was fined $1,000 and sentenced to serve a term not to exceed 10 years in the Iowa Department of Corrections on the charge of second-degree sexual abuse, to be served concurrently.

According to parole stipulations through the state, Archer must serve at least 70 percent of his sentence before he can be paroled.

He was ordered to have no contact with the victim and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
