Historical Society hosts Pioneer Days

MAQUOKETA — The Jackson County Historical Society will host “Wheels Through Jackson County - Pioneer Days 2008” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the fairgrounds in Maquoketa. The event will feature displays of old wagons and buggies, fire carts and trucks, bicycles, motorcycles and antique cars from 1949 and earlier. Author Bill Jepsen will give two programs on the history of automobiles made in Iowa.
The Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association will give demonstrations of horsemanship and shooting, all in authentic period costumes with reproduction weapons.
There will also be pioneer activities in the log cabin and machine shed, various old car and wagon rides, a real operating steam engine, games and activities for kids, the Country Store, White Elephant Booth and a quilt show.
Wrist bands will be available for $4 and will include all activities. Food will be available throughout the day. For more information call the museum at (563) 652-5020 or 652-1803.
